What educators are saying

My students had the best time with this activity! Not only did they create their own Thanksgiving budget but they also got to buy foods to create their own personalized Thanksgiving plate! I highly recommend this very engaging activity!
I used this in class along with the story Turkey, Turkey What Do You Smell and as I read the students made their plate and when it was done I laminated it for them and they took it home to use as a placemat at Thanksgiving.

Description

Includes:

  • 14 large labelled flashcards of whole family style dishes of Thanksgiving food.
  • 14 picture/word strips - can be used as a word wall
  • full page place setting mat of a plate, dessert plate, fork, knife and spoon in color.
  • full page place setting mat of a plate, dessert plate, fork, knife and spoon in BW
  • page of individual food servings to cut out and arrange on the place setting mats in color
  • page of individual food servings to cut out and arrange on the place setting mats in BW

I have added a light dashed cutting line around each of the individual food pictures to guide those with early scissors skills.

Things to do:

  • Use the flashcards to introduce the vocabulary in a small group.
  • Print 2 or more copies of the flashcards and make matching, memory and concentration games with them
  • children cut and paste the individual food items on the place setting page. They can choose to use whatever food they want. Teacher can cut out the pictures for those that need help cutting.
  • color the BW food pictures
  • draw food on the plates instead of pasting the pictures
  • cut the word wall pages in to strips and tape on the wall. The children can "read" the words.
