Description

Is writing a four to five paragraph text-based evidence essay a bit overwhelming for your students? Do they have trouble remembering all the different components and steps? If so, then this Writing Reference Guide is just for you! Get your students engaged and always looking back in their notes with this fun and unique Writing Reference Guide Flip Chart! My students are forever looking at our anchor charts on the wall to help them better enhance their essay, or asking myself or a peer for help if they don't know where to begin. With this flip chart, your students will be able to have the anchor chart, a step by step guide on how to write a text-based essay, and sentence starters/transitions for each area of their writing. The assembly is easy enough that your students can put these together in class and then they will always have something to refer back to, especially when they are at home! This is also an excellent resource for parents to use when trying to help their child with their writing!

I have made PARTS of this flip chart EDITABLE. Almost all of the tabs (with the exception of Unpacking the Prompt and Thesis) and the sentence starters are NOT editable. Most of the language I used is applicable to any and all classrooms since they are good writing techniques, therefore I did not make those portions editable. I did, however, make portions of the overview/review sections editable since different districts use different language and I wanted you to be able to use this resource no matter where or what you taught. You also know your class better than anyone, and you know what wording will be too much and what is just right for your students!

Included are:
- Directions on how to assemble the flip chart
- Cover page
- Seven Tabs that include mini-lesson overviews/reviews, sentence starters, examples, etc.:
o Unpacking the Prompt and Thesis
o Introduction Paragraph and Points
o Evidence (Body Paragraph)
o Elaboration (Body Paragraph)
o Conclusion Paragraph
o Academic Vocab and Rainbow Highlighting
o Final Checklist
- Steps and helpful hints for how to write a text-based essay (SEMI-EDITABLE)
