1. Packing for the Trip: Sort text samples, author’s purpose cards, vocabulary words, and questions into the different tested genres. Genres included are fiction, expository, poetry, literary nonfiction, procedural, drama, persuasive, and correspondence.

2. Stackin’ S’mores: Match academic language: words, definitions, and pictures. Answer sheet and key included.

3. Hunting for Tracks: Use context clues to figure out the meaning of unknown words. 12 different task cards included, as well as an answer sheet and key.

4. Take in the Scenery: Match the paragraph with the main idea. 10 different paragraphs included, with correct answer choices and 6 incorrect choices, too. A self-check puzzle scene has been included on the back of each pair, but you can also just print the fronts and have students complete the answer document. Key included.

5. Hiking Down the Path: Play a board game and identify character traits, examples, and synonyms.

6. What’s That Noise? Infer the speaker of poems using clues. 8 poems included, as well as an answer key and answer document.

7. Gone Fishin’: Play Go Fish! with text features: words and picture examples. 16 different text features plus definitions. Answer key and answer document included.

8. Pitch the Tent: Build an expository article from cut-up pieces. Students have to match captions with photos, diagrams, and more. Then they sort paragraphs into different headings, and sequence paragraphs in a logical order. Lots of thinking skills needed! Answer key included.

9. Campfire Stories: Sequence events to recreate a fiction story. Answer key included.

10. Creepy Crawlies: Hunt for examples of author's craft in fiction and poetry. Includes craft such as simile, metaphor, and imagery and more. Fourth and fifth grade differentiated versions include personification, point of view, alliteration, and assonance!

11. The Great Outdoors: Read a drama and identify evidence to support inferences. Hands-on activity. Answer key included!

12. Campfire Safety: Read a fiction story to learn about how to make a campfire and an informational article to learn about forest. Write six short constructed responses about character change, central idea, author's purpose, message, and more! Short constructed response samples included.
