**This will help your students go from counting the dots on the ten frame to subitizing them.

{Subitizing is the accuracy, speed, and confidence with which students count without the dependence on counting one-to-one}

Example of Subitizing:

If you look at the Product Picture, you will see a ten frame with six dots on the lower corner of the picture. However, these dots are not in the traditional arrangement in the ten frame. Did you have to count each dot to know how many were there?

I subitize the dots by seeing there are 2 on the top and 4 on the bottom. Others may notice that 4 squares are empty and know that 10-4=6.

This will not only give your students the ability to count sets quickly, it builds their number sense. It also builds on their ability to know how to make and decompose the number 10 quickly and accurately.

**Use these images as flashcards and only allow students to see it for a few seconds, then ask how many they saw.

**You can also use this as flashcards in a different way. Ask students to count/subitize the empty squares.
