Telling Time by the Hour and Half Hour Activities

This set starts with a music video that uses a pattern to teach children how to tell time to the hour and half-hour. I recommend having one or more large geared clocks that the whole class can see, plus mini-geared clocks for individual students. In my class, we do exactly what you see in the video: Children get to stand in front of the class and show times as the song plays. At the same time, the rest of the class can watch and learn; use mini-clocks; read along; or point to the clock page. Along with this video on TpT, you'll get:

1. A link to the video on Vimeo, where you can stream it outside of your TpT account and download it (for classroom use only). Use for whole-class lessons, small group lessons, and centers.

2. Full-color partial lyrics. I recommend projecting these so that children can learn the pattern of the song. In this way, they can focus on using clocks as the song plays.

3. Black-and-white lyrics. Print these for each child. They can choose to watch the video, use mini geared clocks, or point to words as they sing. You may want to include these in math or song notebooks. Children can also read lyrics without the music whole-class, independently, with partners, or as part of guided reading groups.

4. Hour/half-hour time cards. I've included instructions on using these as the song plays, and also using them as flashcards.
