Description

Trying to teach your students about the use and purpose of similes, metaphors, and extended metaphors? Do you and/or your students love Taylor Swift?

The first half of this presentation reviews similes and metaphors, comparing and contrasting the two, and allows students to practice identifying similes, metaphors, and the comparisons being made (intrinsic/extrinsic)

Then, the second half of the presentation looks at the song "Red" and asks critical thinking questions to identify and determine the meaning of similes, metaphors, and extended metaphors. Additional response/teacher note slides included, or can be used for tiered instruction

Finally, students are given three discussion questions to help deepen their understanding of the song and the use of similes/metaphors to communicate a message to your audience.
