Tax, Discount, Percent Change Shopping Activity

Tax, Discount, and percent change are difficult concepts for students to understand. Real life uses are the best ways to illustrate these concepts.

In this activity, students can work in groups and refer to a copy of a store circular. They will then answer 21 questions over tax, discount, percent increase, and percent decrease.

A calculator will be a great tool with this activity, but it is always great to require that the process must be shown for each problem.

For the last set of questions, the students will assume the sales tax rate for the state of residency. This makes it even more real-world.

An answer key is provided, but the last two problems will vary based on the state of residency.
