What educators are saying

I wanted to create stations for my Creative Writing classes to help them evaluate not only their own work but their peers' work, as well. I love this resource! It's simple to use for both me and my students.
These editing stations worked so well for my students. It helped them to clearly edit their work and look in detail at each area for improvement.

Description

When writing stories in class, students often need help with the drafting and editing process. Once they have a first rough draft, use these editing task card stations to help guide them with perfecting their writing.

**NOTE: Students must have written a whole story before you use these stations. They should come to class with their stories at hand, and have them with them as they journey through the various stations.

CONTENTS

POSTERS

There are four stations for editing included, and for each one, there is a poster along with 5 task cards for close analysis and editing.

**Grammar Guardian - These 5 tasks help students seek out grammatical errors and correct them. Particular focus is on comma usage, apostrophes, tense and spelling.

**Structure Inspector - These 5 tasks help students firm up the structure of their stories: writing great hooks; identifying conflict and the climax in the story; ensuring that the writing is correctly paragraphed etc.

**Fluency Enforcer - These 5 tasks help students make their writing more fluent. Particular focus is on sentence fluency with tasks which make students think about varying sentence length, varying sentence beginnings and using transitional words and phrases.

**Ruthless Editor - These 5 tasks guide students through the process of editing their writing closely; they will have to focus in on precise word choice, editing out redundant sentences and showing, rather than telling.

TASK CARDS

There are 20 task cards which are engaging and attractive, and will help guide students through the whole process.

RECORDING SHEET

This one-page handout will help students keep track of which cards they have completed, and help them assess their own progress.
