What educators are saying

Another great resource to use while teaching students about Target Marketing. It gets students up and moving around, very engaging. I made it into a team challenge, which was a success.
My students loved this activity! Some of the songs were a bit "old" for my students to understand the double meaning while playing...but they still laughed as they moved around the room. Great way to engage students while learning material.

Description

2020 Update: If you're teaching virtually, there are links to make copies of the Google Docs for groups 1-5 in the teacher directions file.

--------

I have taught the concept of target marketing a ton of times! It used to involve lots of print ads and sedentary class discussion. Now it involves personalization and movement!

In this activity, students learn the concept by thinking of themselves in the role of another person. In this role, they go through stations with their group members, who are also assigned a role. (Together, they are a group of family members or friends.) Each station has a product and they have to determine together if anyone in their family/friend group is a member of the target market for the product.

I love this activity because I can use it to teach the concept to the same student more than once. For example, if I have a student in Entrepreneurship class one semester and Marketing Principles the next, I can simply make sure they have different group papers and it’s still a meaningful activity!

This product includes:

  • detailed teacher instructions - including examples to guide class discussion before the activity
  • 10 product station printouts
  • group papers (30 different roles for students in 10 separate groups)
  • a table for groups to fill out as they move through the stations
  • an audio file with family and friend themed songs that play in 30 second increments to signify when students should switch stations.
