Description
CITING STRONG EVIDENCE IS MADE EASY WITH THIS INTERACTIVE ESCAPE ROOM & UNIT FROM EDGAR ALLAN POE'S "TELL TALE HEART." Throughout this unit, students will engage in analysis of text and development of strong evidence to present for the Judge and Jury Socratic Seminar. In addition, the "Tell Tale Heart Escape Room" will allow students to explore "Tell Tale Heart" with interactive learning. NO FANCY LOCKS OR PROPS NEEDED. Not only will this escape room allow students to interact with crucial textual evidence, but also invite students to close read documents associated with the grisly murder in "Tell Tale Heart."
The Judge and Jury Socratic Seminar takes evidence to the next level by having a jury of students evaluate the strongest evidence presented on three central topics in "Tell Tale Heart":
-Prove the narrator is sane or insane.
-Should the narrator represent himself as a credible witness or is he an unreliable witness?
-Is the narrator guilty by fault of murder or not guilty by extenuating circumstances?
The "Create an Essay" activity requires students to evaluate multiple evidence paragraphs to build three evidence paragraphs. Then, include a connecting introduction and conclusion.
TELL TALE HEART ESCAPE ROOM:The escape room is separated into 3 parts.
Part 1: Patient Analysis walks students thorough an insane asylum portfolio to examine characterization. It also involves students in cipher decoding while examining evidence in Part 2: Burden of Proof and Part 3: Summary of Findings. Students will focus on claim and evidence through text and video analysis without feeling like they are doing classwork. There are several versions of the escape room, so you can realistically pull off an escape room in a secondary classroom without students revealing passwords to friends. JUST PRINT AND GO. The only things you will need are computer or phone access to watch the video and some file folders or folded construction paper to separate Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3. An optional online lock is provided in the product, but not required that you use it if you don't have computer access.
