Write the room is an engaging and effective activity that can be used with early and emerging writers. You may choose to use it as a literacy center, whole-class activity, fast finisher, and more! Students will be engaged as they move around the room hunting for phonics-themed words and writing them down on their recording sheets.
As a teacher I personally LOVE that this one simple activity reinforces letter recognition and formation, orthographic mapping, phonetic spelling, reading, writing, vocabulary building, and more! And it requires very little prep! To prepare this activity simply print, cut, laminate, and post the cards around the room. Give each student a recording sheet and send them off to find and record the words. My students look forward to this activity week after week!
