Description

Welcome to the wonderful world of P2C (pictures to communicate)! It has helped countless people to learn vocabulary, communication, functional independence, routine, behavior management, and general academics. Use P2C however it fits in your classroom or home. There is no 'right' way to implement the system - so experiment away!

This is one of many decks being offered in P2C, a new TpT store! Decks are 1 part of a 3 part system developed to help children and students with special needs develop functional language through standardized pictures and words. Read on to learn more.

Part 1: Decks

Decks are themed P2C that are used to increase vocabulary about a particular topic. Included in each deck package are 4 similar files, each containing the same vocabulary list. There are flashcards (3"x3") which are best used when introducing new words or labeling large items. There are also tiles (1.5"x1.5") which can be used in conjunction with templates (sold in the P2C store), to label smaller items, or to be used for various games, schedules, charts, etc. Tiles come in 3 formats: picture and word, picture only, and word only.

The deck includes the following words:

basketball, football, baseball, volleyball, dodgeball, tennis, table tennis, badminton, track and field, cross country, archery, soccer, hockey, ice skating, yoga, gymnastics, karate, taekwondo, kung-fu, weightlifting, fitness, rugby, cricket, boxing, wrestling, cycling, running, fishing, judo, horseback riding, golf, bowling, cheerleading, high jump, long jump, fencing, billiards, exercise ball, fooze ball, rqcquetball, ballet, jazz dance, skateboarding, skiing, water skiing, race, bobsled, kayaking, snowboarding, surfing, diving, rowing, scuba diving, aerobics, figure skating, roller skating, trampoline, curling, kickball, softball, *swimming (recently added)

Part 2: Templates

Templates can be used in a variety of adaptive (life skills), social, academic, and behavioral situations. They are meant to be flexible and able to fit in a variety of contexts. For example, the P2C store has a template for visual schedules and reward charts.

The tiles in the decks are perfectly sized to be used in the templates.

Part 3: Systems

Systems are a combination of decks and templates that are meant to address a specific behavior or learn a specific skills. For example, the P2C store has a system that can be implemented to address behavior that requires the student/child to leave the activity, do a calming or alternative activity, and then a reflection to determine if they're read to rejoin the group/activity.

Systems are a bit more rigid in their execution. However, you can pick and choose certain parts and you can customize the motivators, rewards, and alternative activities.

These resources are best used with coloured printing, lamination, and hook and loops (velcro). Be creative with how you use P2C in your classroom or home. Don't be afraid to reach out for support or for customized P2C-based materials. I am happy to connect (P2C.tptstore@gmail.com).
