Description

This project is great for upper elementary grades. Students make a symmetrical city following specific guidelines on the rubric.

Measurement skills are also used when students create their cities.

It allows for adaptation (using just the graph paper or making the city on larger paper) and is a fun end of the year project when you need to keep the students engaged. It is also a great assessment and very easy to grade!

Included are the directions, helpful tips, rubric, graph paper, and sample projects.

For example, know that 1 ft is 12 times as long as 1 in. Express the length of a 4 ft snake as 48 in. Generate a conversion table for feet and inches listing the number pairs (1, 12), (2, 24), (3, 36),...
Recognize a line of symmetry for a two-dimensional figure as a line across the figure such that the figure can be folded along the line into matching parts. Identify line-symmetric figures and draw lines of symmetry.
