Symbolism - Common Symbols Found in Literature and Poetry

Use this presentation to cover the most important and common symbols found in poetry and prose. Once they know the basics, students can then identify the same or similar symbols easily on their own when reading. I use these notes to help students in identifying symbols in poetry; it would also be great for getting students to incorporate symbols into their own writing in a Creative Writing class. Every slide includes a different symbol, what it (usually) represents, and a picture to illustrate!
