Description

Swirling Milk Lab introduces students to surface tension, molecular bonding, the response of a liquid to a surfactant and chemcial reactions all in one easy experiment. Depending on the grade level, Swirling Milk Lab has been set up using the technique Claim, Evidence, Reasoning(C.E.R.)to argue the evidence in a specific situation. The big question is, "What happens when food coloring is added to milk?" Student's know matter what the age can answer, defend or refute the question using CER.

NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) uses a progression of the Science and Engineering Practices starting in Kindergarten throughout grade twelve. One very important standard is “engaging in argument from evidence”. Each grade level builds on the previous level. Engaging in argument from evidence in K–2 builds on prior experiences and progresses to comparing ideas and representations about the natural and designed world(s). Grades 3–5 builds on K–2 experiences and progresses to critiquing the scientific explanations or solutions proposed by peers by citing relevant evidence, grades 6–8 build on K–5 experiences and progresses to constructing a convincing argument that supports or refutes claims for either explanations or argument from evidence, and in grades 9–12 students will build on K–8 experiences and progress to using appropriate and sufficient evidence and scientific reasoning to defend and critique claims and explanations about the natural and designed world(s).
