Description
Looking for a way to get your students excited about learning supply/demand? Put them in the driver's seat of owning their own business and trying to please customers! This activity works alongside the Cool Math Coffee Shop Game (a free internet game).
In this game the students will run a coffee shop and make all inventory, purchasing, and pricing decisions. Each day the students must make inventory selections for their coffee shop, create their recipe, set their price, and try to sell their coffee to as many customers as possible in the hopes of making a profit. The students must record all purchases made and their daily results on the recording chart. At the end of the simulation, there are 8 assessment questions students must answer about their performance in the game and about factors that can affect supply/demand. I always reward my student who had the highest profit with a small treat like a candy bar or coffee from our actual school coffee shop!
This activity includes a PowerPoint to explain the game and instructions to students and the recording chart/assessment questions that accompany the game. All files are editable if you need to make edits. This game is a HUGE hit in my classroom. Hope your students enjoy it!
The actual game students play can be found by googling "Cool Math Coffee Shop." This resource pairs with the Cool Math online gaming platform. Please note that if your district has blocked the Cool Math games platform, this resource may not work for you!
