Superhero Power Cards for Social-Emotional Skills

Power cards are portable visual cue cards that help students generalize new skills or remind them of expectations in an engaging way. My students love them because they get to keep them and show them off to others.

The skills on these 6 superhero power cards are ones that will help most children: self-regulation strategies, ignoring others’ provocative behavior, self-confidence, and kindness. Fronts of cards are provided both in color and in black-and-white.

Cards are cut out and glued front-to-back on 3x5 index cards, then placed on an O-ring. Cards can be carried from place to place, or kept in the student’s desk or locker. Keeping the cards handy allows the child to refer to them to remind himself of the “superhero mindset” when needed, either on his own or when cued by an adult. A desktop strategy strip is also included as another option for cueing.
