Description

This superhero-themed literacy pack is sure to engage your young readers and writers! Your primary grade students will love comparing and contrasting story characters, as well as real-life and comic book heroes. Build comprehension skills and writing skills with this resource.

Literacy activities designed with two purposes in mind:

The first was to provide a character trait sorting activity for Dex: The Heart of a Hero by Caralyn and Michael Buehler. This fiction text about Dex, a wiener dog with a big dream, is one of my favorites. The story describes his troubles with Cleevis, the neighborhood tomcat, as well as his transformation into a superhero. This resource is a nice supplement to Journeys Unit 4, Lesson 20 if you use the reading series.

The second was to provide materials to create an anchor or pocket chart that will help your students compare and contrast the qualities of fictional superheroes and real-life heroes they have read about. What a great way to start a discussion about the important character traits of courage, kindness, perseverance, and cooperation!
