What educators are saying

Rounding up from 4.5 stars. My students found this resource very engaging, and I think it's a great way to help them identify the concepts and apply them. My only quibble is that there is a paragraph repeated on the second page of the goji berries article.

Description

Are Superfoods real or a total myth? This persuasive pamphlet will have your students HOOKED. They'll analyze rhetorical appeals (ethos, logos, pathos) in the nonfiction article. This makes an excellent high school reading comprehension activity.

Your high school reading comprehension resource includes:

✅ "Can Goji Berries Save the World?" persuasive article (pamphlet)

✅ Analyzing Rhetorical Appeals (ethos, logos, pathos) Worksheet

✅ Food Beliefs Persuasive Pamphlet Project

After reading the nonfiction passage, students analyze rhetorical appeals. Then, alone or in groups, they write their own persuasive pamphlet about food beliefs or another topic.

Reading Comprehension Passage versions:

  • Persuasive Pamphlet (color)
  • Persuasive Pamphlet (black & white)
  • Persuasive Article (color) - great for viewing on devices!
  • Persuasive Article (black & white)

Project Materials:

  1. Editable brainstorming worksheet
  2. Editable analytic & holistic rubrics
  3. Editable student reflection sheet
  4. Student Example (mid-range work, so students can critique it)

Hint: If you're concerned about triggering students with eating disorders, the research activity works with ANY persuasive topic. All of your project materials are 100% editable.
