Description
This writing activity has been designed to go along with the book, Sun Up, Sun Down, written by Gail Gibbons. With guidance and support, students will participate in shared research as they take notes on the information presented in the book and then use their notes to compose an organized one-paragraph essay. Two differentiated note-taking sheets are provided so you can best meet the needs of your students. Students are given the choice of three writing prompts to complete using their note-taking sheets. A writing rubric is included for students to assess their own work. Teachers can then use the same rubric to score students’ writing. This writing activity was designed for my second and third grade students. This writing activity would be a great addition to your solar system unit or units having to do with Cycles on Earth.
