WHAT ARE NONFICTION DECODABLE TEXTS?
These nonfiction science passages and booklets are not only written on a first grade decoding level, but also align with the first grade next generation science standards. If you have my first grade decodables, this set of readers includes ALL of the first grade decoding skills from that set.
They also include science vocabulary words that are introduced in a vocabulary list, but are not decodable words. There is a science passage option for each text that has picture symbols above the science vocabulary words to help with reading those above grade level vocab words.
WHY DO I NEED NONFICTION DECODABLE TEXTS AND READERS?
It's important for kids to learn to decode and read a variety of decodable texts, not just the silly fiction decodables. While my other decodables do include some expository texts and different text types, the science-based nonfiction decodables are unique to this set.
Do you need to engage boys or other hands on learners in reading? Science decodables may be just what you need to hook your kids into practicing decoding!
