What educators are saying

My students loved this activity. They found it really engaging and enjoyed making the comic strip. I will definitely use this again!

----------

In this highly engaging resource, students watch the included newscast video and complete a graphic organizer on the "Sumner Caning" that took place between Charles Sumner and Preston Brooks in regard to the event known as "Bleeding Kansas."

In addition to the guided notes, students complete a graphic novel assignment where they recap the buildup to the event (including the events in Bleeding Kansas), the people involved (Charles Sumner, Preston Brooks, Andrew Butler), the reaction (the massive expansion of the Republican Party and more), and the impact it has on a nation leading toward Civil War.

This resource includes a paper in-class version and a 1:1 Google compatible version to be used in conjunction with Google Classroom. Just follow the included instructions for how to access the Google version, then share the resource through Google or assign via Google Classroom. This will allow students to type directly into the document!

Very interesting and engaging!
