    Lesson 1: Poetry Writing! Write about a specific Quality (Courage, Love, Hate)

    Poetry Writing! Quality poetry lesson plan will help student hone their creative writing skills, problem solving skills, writing fluency, imagery, description and knowledge of test assessment poetry terms.

    Quality poetry writing can be fun! To write a quality poem, students need to choose a quality from a suggested list, or may add another quality not on the list with permission from the teacher. Brainstorming, vocabulary development, poetic terms, description and imagery will help prepare students for ELA test assessment. An example of Detachment, a poem written by the instructor, is included.

    This lesson contains:

    Students will have the option to share the poem written during Author’s Chair near the end of the period.

    Lesson 2: Poetry Writing! Performance Poetry Group Poems written like Choral Readings, Oral Interpretation of The Written Poem

    Poetry Writing! Performance Poems are FUN! Performance Poems will get students out of their seats and speaking before the class. Performance poems will engage all students. Performance poems will help student hone their creative writing skills, problem solving skills, writing fluency, imagery, description and knowledge of test assessment poetry terms.

    Students will watch youtube examples and will participate in reading poems written in my English 10 class from a powerpoint presentation. The poems are color coded so that each speaker in the presentation knows what lines to read alone and what lines to read together as a group.

    To write a Performance Poem, students need to choose a subject they are passionate about and form a group of two, three, or four voices. Brainstorming, vocabulary development, poetic terms, description and imagery will help prepare students for ELA test assessment. Performance poems are usually written in free verse.

    Lesson 3: Poetry Writing! Found Poetry

    Poetry Writing! Found poems are FUN! Found poems will engage all students. Found poems will help students hone their creative writing skills, problem solving skills, writing fluency, imagery, description and knowledge of test assessment poetry terms.

    Students will create found poems using words cut from magazines and newspapers. They may cut out letters and create their own words.

    Students may complete an exit pass after they have created the poetry project.
