Description

Looking for a practical and engaging way to get students talking during student led conferences? Need a Plan B Station for early arrivals? Want to foster honest student-parent conversations with a growth-mindset?

Here are 35 Reflection Cards students can use to frame conversation with parents during Student Led Conferences or Open Houses or just for general student reflection on learning.

How does it work?

Students can use sentence starter cards as a starting point and finish each card with their own thoughts and feelings.

  • Example Cards:
    • When working in groups I can...
    • When working alone I can...
    • I am a _________ kind of learner because...
    • I am proud of...
    • I have a strong understanding of...
    • I loved learning about _________ because...

  • while very open ended, the sentence starters are geared around:
    • general (feelings about school)
    • skills
    • attitudes
    • looking back
    • looking ahead

Use these cards as best fit for your students:

  • choose a specific number of cards ahead of time to frame their conversation with parents
  • peer to peer conversation practice leading up to SLCs or open house
  • fill-in activity for early student/parent groups or groups who rush through the process and finish too soon
  • end of year student reflections

Included:

  • 35 reflection cards (sentence starters)
  • 2 worksheets for SLC prep or homework (2 variations: finish 3 cards or 6 cards)
