Student Checklist for Editing, Revising, and Publishing

This 1 page checklist (front and back) is essential for every classroom, all subjects, grades 5-9. It is a checklist of the short but essential tasks that students must complete to revise, edit, and publish their work. The backside of the checklist includes mini-lessons or reminders of each of the editing requirements for quick reference. There are two versions of this checklist, one with fewer editing items (depending on what you emphasize in your class).

I provide class time for students to go through each item, one by one (for their own work and/or with a peer), and cross it off once they have completed it. Then, before they can hand it in, they must sign the bottom of the sheet promising that they have checked for each item and that the work represents their very best work.

Every teacher in my school uses this same checklist, regardless of grade level or subject area. It provides a common language and common set of expectations across the school.
