What educators are saying

How fun! This was perfect for my gifted second graders to review some reading skills and practice responding to a writing prompt.
We used this resource for literacy stations/independent work, and for some homework assignments. Our students liked the fiction stories about the leprechauns.

Description

These St. Patrick's Day reading passages and comprehension questions are a perfect tool to use to help students practice their comprehension and writing skills. In this product, you will find five St. Patrick's Day stories with 2 comprehension activities for each. One of the comprehension papers deals with answering questions about the text and the other paper deals with writing a response based on the passage.

St. Patrick's Day Stories:

Story 1: The Leprechaun Who Didn't Like Trouble

  • Character Traits
  • If I Were a Leprechaun writing

Story 2: The Mess They Made

  • Main Idea and Supporting Detail
  • Finish story- how to clean up the room

Story 3: At the End of the Rainbow

  • The 5 W’s
  • What would be at the end of your rainbow writing piece

Story 4- The Lonely Leprechaun

  • Sequencing
  • What would you do?

Story 5- My Lucky Four Leaf Clover

  • Answering Short Answer Questions
  • Personal Luck Writing

I have found that second grade students benefit to read this as a whole group the first time, then allow them to respond individually. However, it works great for higher readers independently. 3rd graders could work independently through this activity.
