  • Word Awareness Poem and Sequencing Cards: Word awareness is the understanding that a phrase or sentence is made up of individual words. It’s also the ability to manipulate words in phrases or sentences. This activity includes a fun poem that helps students develop their ability to recognize and sequence words.

  • Rhyming Riddles: These simple riddles are a great way to help students develop their ability to recognize and produce rhyming words.

  • Syllable Sorting: With this activity, students will learn to recognize syllables and sort words based on the number of syllables they contain.

  • Beginning Sound Matching: This phonemic awareness activity is designed to help students develop their ability to recognize the beginning sounds of words.

  • Ending Sounds: I-Spy Bingo: This activity is a fun and engaging way for students to practice identifying ending sounds in words.

  • Sorting Middle Sounds: This activity provides students with the opportunity to practice identifying and sorting words based on their middle sounds.

  • Phoneme Segmenting and Blending: Use these "point and slide" cards to practice segmenting the phonemes in short words and then blend them together again. This advanced phonemic awareness activity is a critical precursor to decoding words.

  • Phoneme Substitution: With this "What's the New Word?" game, students will learn to substitute individual sounds in words to create new words. This is another advanced phonemic awareness activity that helps readers develop proficiency in manipulating sounds.
