Description
This St. Patrick’s Day Bundle includes two games, which can be used over and over again in lots of ways. A leprechaun persuasive letter-writing activity focuses on traits of writing and the components of a letter. There is a Shamrock Math Activity that focus on many different math concepts- fractions, decimals, and percent. You can read about each individual resource below:
The St. Patrick’s Day Fast-Thinking Game requires vocabulary and word work practice. Since this is a St. Patrick’s Day themed game, all of the descriptive words that the students generate must be related to the holiday. Game directions are included. You can encourage students to work in groups so that they can learn from each other. All you have to do is choose a letter as the beginning letter for each descriptive word. Then, give students a set amount of time to generate words/phrases that match the clues starting with that letter. Two points are scored for words that no one else has, and one point is scored if the answer has been repeated. This also works well as a literacy center once students know how to play. It can also be used for your class or personal party or as a fun alternative during indoor recess.

The St. Patrick’s Day Say It Game is a really great oral language activity for elementary and middle school. Students work against the clock to get their teammates to guess the forbidden word at the top of their game card without using any of the related words that are on the card. This requires that they use vocabulary and oral language skills to describe words, themes, and concepts related to St. Patrick’s Day.

The Persuasive Letter to a Leprechaun Writing Activity with Rubric requires students to write a persuasive letter to a leprechaun to try and convince the leprechaun to share his gold. You can use this as an opportunity to assess students' writing skills with the included rubric.

The St. Patrick’s Day Math uses different colored shamrocks (included) to teach or reinforce the concept of converting fractions to percent and decimals.
Make sure each student gets a sheet or collection of shamrocks. First, they write the fractions to represent the portion of each color they have. Then, they turn that into a fraction and finally a percent.
The level of difficulty for your students can be adjusted based on the number of shamrocks each student has. For example, if you provide students with a number of shamrocks that can easily be converted from a fraction to a percent, such as 10 or 20, they will not have to use decimals for their percents. You could also pass out different amounts or have stations with different amounts so that students get lots of differentiated practice. They could trade and “check” the work of another student who has a different number of shamrocks too. They might not even realize they are learning!
