Students are challenged to solve problems, then locate their answers in a coded alphabet and write the corresponding letter on a line to form a word. This word is an answer to a spring themed question.

This is a multi-step, engaging activity that will help students master certain Common Core standards.

In some classrooms, these secret codes may prove more challenging. The process really requires students to focus. Depending on the needs of your students, you may want to demonstrate the process to them first.

The covered topics in the secret codes are:

Rounding to the nearest hundred and thousand

Adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers
