Opinion Writing Benchmarking Kit

The purpose of this benchmarking kit is to give resource teachers a tool that helps them quickly identify the grade level their students with learning disabilities are writing at. This rubric is designed to be used three times a year as a benchmarking tool, NOT as a progress monitoring tool.

Included in this benchmarking kit is:

-Rubric to identify levels of k-4th writing

-Opinion writing prompt for K, 1st, and 2nd

-Opinion writing prompt with an article for grades 3rd and 4th

-Explanation on how to grade papers using the rubric

-10 student writing samples with rubric and annotations

Although we have included opinion writing prompts (some with articles and some without) the rubric included can be used with any opinion writing completed independently by the student.
