    All about me (Interview)

    This All about me/Interview with Ainhoa activity blends together tons of relevant cognates (programa, persona famosa, celebridad, música, etc), common structures such as ser, gustar and basic verbs in Spanish, with cultural information (Spanish superstars, food, school) all in a short dynamic interview.

    Ainhoa, who is actually from Pamplona, talks about her favorite music, programs, classes, books, and hobbies. Students have several pre and post activities to engage them on different levels:

    1. Vocabulary list with most words from the interview

    2. Information gap activity: students plug in the words from the list

    3. Interview: students read silently first, and then read with a partner

    4. Mini-lesson possessive adjectives as students respond to questions about Ainhoa (no more writing "tu película favorita" for a third party).

    5. Comprehension questions

    6. Students use the structures and vocabulary then to discuss their interests

    7. Interview a partner with the same activity

    8. Venn Diagram- compare and contrast with Ainhoa.

    Great for allowing students to learn basic vocabulary, cognates, interrogative words, sentence structure and writing.

    El mejor de la clase is an Argentine back-to-school commercial sponsored by Movistar (telecommunications company). The plot is super simple. A new girl comes on the first day of classes. She is very attractive, which grabs the boys' attention immediately She walks in, sits downs, asks for a pencil. Her request is met with several of the boys vying to give her a pen. She delighted, smiles, but there is one pen that really stands out; she chooses that one. This Movie Talk activity is perfect for Novice-level students, as it incorporates school supplies vocabulary in a highly relatable context.

    There are TONS OF ACTIVITIES that can be implemented in conjunction with the Movie Talk or independently. This packet walks the teacher through circling activities to optimize exposure to vocabulary. With this activity, the teacher can provide students will have input around:

    This resource is based on the characters of the CI Level 1 Reader “La clase de confesiones.” The comic strip features five of the characters and their interactions on the first day of school. These events serve as a “prequel” and have not been included in the actual book.

He initially happy to be in school and have some sense of normalcy, but is now rethinking the school experience. When the teacher moves close to his desk, to ask about his school supplies, Sam is petrified. The teacher notices, and does something incredible. At the end, Sam feels that he belongs.

    How can I use this resource?

    This resource can be used as part of a FVR program, or as a class story. This story recycles many structures and vocabulary words such as tener, mirar, hablar, caminar, materiales escolares, etc, in addition to highlighting aspects of the immigration crisis in Venezuela.

    Looking for a creative way to teach basic -ar verbs and school supplies? Check out this resource! This resource contains:

    1. A short story about two- Colombian boy-crazed teens who go shopping for school supplies at a local papelería (the infographic of the Papelería and sales is included). While they discuss common topics about school, boys, and ditching class (Raquel), they stumble upon an all too common situation in the local store. They'll have the chance to look beyond their privilege and "pay it forward." This opportunity makes them think more about their good fortune and future decisions.

    This story contains a glossary for students as well.

    Most of the story, if not all, is told in the present tense. Many of the regional vocabulary and new words are footnoted.
