Spanish Reading Comprehension Skills Practice {Idea Principal y Detalles}

How do you get better at finding the main idea and details of a text? Practice, practice, practice! I designed these Spanish language texts so my immersion students could do just that. It's amazing how much they improved at this often challenging skill after working with these texts and the graphic organizer provided next to each one.

This packet includes 8 texts for students to read. I designed these texts for my 2nd graders, but they could work for other grades depending on the level of your students. I told the students to read the text and first fill in the individual details on their graphic organizers. These are like the puzzle pieces of a text. Then I had them "add up" all of these details and find the "sum" of the pieces which is the main idea of the text, or the completed puzzle.

My students enjoyed completing these for partner practice, but you could also use them for an individual literacy center, as a tool in a guided strategy lesson, or for a quick reading assessment.
