What educators are saying
Description
This is something I've wanted to create for a few years - and thanks to Covid-19, it's finally done! This resource is a culmination that began with teaching English as a Second Language and seeing Judy Thompson speak about how "English is Stupid" at a conference, then a Collaborative Inquiry tracking the effects of targeted and explicit phonics-based instruction with K-8 students, and learning more about speech-based phonics instruction in Diane McGuinness, Ph.D.'s book, "Why Our Children Can't Read and What We Can Do About It."
* includes pages for qu (/kw/) and x (/ks/)
* wh and w are one card (no separate card for breathed /wh/)
All photographs are of adults' mouths. There are currently 2 individuals' mouths included (one is almost complete, but included; I had to wait for the model to send me the last batch of photographs).
I have a few variations included in the download, including:
- lips only
- spelling variations only
- example words only
- side-by-side pages (lips and spelling variations)
- and a PDF ready for you to print and put in a mobile binder resource (good for outdoor learning, itinerant teachers, etc.)!
Coming Soon:
I will also include a PowerPoint file where you can add your own photographs and various label choices for organizing your wall display. After purchase, you'll be notified and able to download all updates for free.
Now Included:
- "Vowel Bat" labels for short vowels: AEIOU (see YouTube video/song!)
- "long vowels say their own names": AEIOU (labels)
If you use my Phonics CodePack resource (which is a free download and includes a diagnostic assessment) and/or Words Their Way, this is a good addition to your phonics programming.
I have this resource in a binder (seen in the preview video) and will also create a sound wall for my students - which will include decorative mirrors so students can practice and see themselves and their mouth formations!
This is especially helpful for Primary-grades children, students with articulation goals, and/or English Language Learners (ELLs). It's also helpful for students to see mouth formations when educators have to wear a facemask.
Remember to leave feedback on your TPT purchases. You'll earn "TPT Points," which can be used as credits to discount future purchases on any product!
If you would like to see an addition to this resource, please let me know! You can "Ask A Question" or leave your suggestion in your feedback.
