Description

We primary teachers and our students have such busy, overcrowded days!! With Sort and Spell: CVC and CVCe Words, your students can work on recognizing the long and short vowel sounds while also learning to spell!!

Some critical thinking was infused into this task as well. How? Each set is like a puzzle where there must be exactly one word for each long and short vowel sound. Instead of supplying the names of unknown words, try allowing the students to think through unknown word possibilities using the given word patterns as a guide.

Examples of this kind of critical thinking:

  • “Is it a hog or a pig? Well, I can see there is already a short o picture showing ‘pop’ so it must be pig."
  • “Is that picture showing “baby”? Hmmm, baby doesn’t match either word pattern so I better think of what else it could be.”
  • Encourage this independent thinking by modeling it for students when they ask about a picture.

Future sets will feature vowel teams, blends and digraphs, diphthongs, and more. Follow my store to stay up to date on the new sets! I really value feedback, so please send your thoughts along! THANKS and HAPPY SPELLING!!! Lisa Buchholz
