Description

This PowerPoint begins by reviewing solving systems with substitution. It has an animated snowplow driver who makes fun of a man with a shovel for wasting his time using substitution when elimination is so much easier. (This addresses the students' complaints about learning a method they think is harder when an easier one exists). The man with the shovel will later remind the one with the snowplow that there is a time and a place for everything. There are animated examples which show positive and negative matching terms cancel out and take students through the solving process. These visual effects stick with students when they attempt to try the problem on their own.
Finally, there are step by step instructions for students to copy down on how to solve with elimination.

On the last slide, I have pasted the guided notes from a word document, so they can be pasted back so you have the worksheet to go with the slide.

This is a very straightforward lesson with some entertainment along the way. Students see a simple example, a more complicated example, copy steps, and practice on their own.
