What educators are saying

Excellent resource. I've been using this material for a couple of years now! Very organized. My students enjoyed the activity. Thank you!
I loved this source. I teach online students through our district's online school, and every Tuesday we have live sessions with them. I used this activity with them during class to start out, and then I had them finish it on their own and submit their work. Very easy to use, and no prep needed!

Description

Introduction to Solving Trig Equations with Desmos

This packet contains 8 questions that students can use to practice solving Trig Equations. It would best be used as an introduction to solving the equations. [Desmos is a free app that can be used on any device. Desmos can also be accessed using the internet and going through a browser.]

This packet will best be used for students that are using a computer or an iPad. Students can screen shot the graphs right on their screen and insert onto the page with each question. My students used their iPads, graphed each equation on Desmos, and touched the screen at the points of intersection. Desmos gave the exact points of intersection in terms of π. On a computer, students could click on the points of intersection.

On an iPad, your students can put this document into an app such as Notability. They can then write on the page and insert graphs when necessary. A great use of technology!

On the computer, students could insert their graphs and then print to finish writing the solutions.

After completing this activity, I feel that students have a better understanding of the idea that trig equations can have more than one solution.

This activity also helped to highlight the idea that the solution to sin 3x = 1 cannot be found by dividing both sides by 3.
