    Description

    Here is a set of six fun mystery activities for solving Quadratic Equations that your students will love! This set covers all four methods commonly used to solve quadratics: factoring when a is any number, completing the square, using the quadratic formula and graphing.

    The activities are all centered around the mystery of Who Killed Mr. X, with each segment leading to a new lead in the case. You are able to change the title of your mystery in the first activity.

    The bundle includes SIX resources, but each class will only complete FOUR activities to complete their mystery.

    ACTIVITY ONE:

    CHOOSE what level of factoring your class needs to practice. This bundle includes THREE (3) variations of solving quadratics by factoring:

    • Factoring when a=1
    • Factoring when a≠1
    • Factoring when a≥1 (MIXED: 10 equations with a=1, 10 equations with a≠1)

    In whichever activity level you choose, students combine the skills of solving quadratic equations by factoring with the classic board game CLUE. In this activity, you can customize your mystery, selecting your own victim, suspects, weapons, and locations!

    ACTIVITY TWO:

    Once the suspect is identified, students are led to a locked briefcase, and they solve a series of quadratic equations by completing the square to figure out the combination using a logic puzzle. This fun activity is called The Case of the Locked Briefcase

    ACTIVITY THREE:

    The Message in the Briefcase is coded, but students will decode it using the Quadratic Formula.

    ACTIVITY FOUR:

    This message leads your junior sleuths to the city Where is the Villain Hiding. In this graphing activity, you will be able to customize your title to reflect the name of villain from your first part of the mystery.
