What educators are saying

My students have a piecewise function activity just like this that they love, so I thought we'd try out another. Yep, they loved it!
My students worked in groups of 4 to find all of the different parts to these problems. Then I used just the word problem without the other hints to make sure they fully understand the question being asked. Thank you for such a wonderful resource.

Description

Solving One Step Inequalities Puzzle

For students learning how to solve and graph inequality word problems, they can practice with this puzzle and can self check.

***There are 3 versions included. The original puzzle AND a different puzzle that is easier to cut. Finally, there is a version with all the pieces mixed up so you can hand the pages off to the students and they can cut themselves without knowing the answers.

There are 16 puzzles. Some of the puzzles contain similar numbers so student's can't just match numbers together; they will need to interpret equations and word problems in order to find a match. Each one contains a word problem, inequality problem, inequality solution, and a number line. Students will need to match all four together. Includes an answer document for students to record their matches.

Write an inequality of the form 𝘹 > 𝘤 or 𝘹 < 𝘤 to represent a constraint or condition in a real-world or mathematical problem. Recognize that inequalities of the form 𝘹 > 𝘤 or 𝘹 < 𝘤 have infinitely many solutions; represent solutions of such inequalities on number line diagrams.
Solve word problems leading to inequalities of the form 𝘱𝘹 + 𝘲 > 𝘳 or 𝘱𝘹 + 𝘲 < 𝘳, where 𝘱, 𝘲, and 𝘳 are specific rational numbers. Graph the solution set of the inequality and interpret it in the context of the problem. For example: As a salesperson, you are paid $50 per week plus $3 per sale. This week you want your pay to be at least $100. Write an inequality for the number of sales you need to make, and describe the solutions.
