What educators are saying
Description
❤️ Help primary students develop effective communication skills for conflict resolution by practicing I-Message statements. Using Karen Scheuer's story, A Bug and A Wish, students will learn how to make Bug and Wish statements to resolve conflicts with friends. Enhance your students' social-emotional learning. *Please note that the book is not included in the download.
The PowerPoint for this lesson has multiple slides that focus on practicing how to make Bug and Wish statements. Firstly, the class practices together, then individual students demonstrate using Buggy Situations. After that, the class breaks into groups of three to work on conflict situations. To assess student learning, each group presents how they would handle Buggy Situations and builds a Bug, with bug body parts appearing on the slideshow to create a butterfly in the end. Finally, as an extension activity, students get to create colorful bookmarks and bracelets to help them remember how to use Bug and Wish statements.
This lesson is designed for primary students and comes with a complete packet of materials. The packet includes a lesson plan, PowerPoint Slideshow with an Interactive Build a Bug assessment, BUG cards to group students, Buggy Situation pictures, and bookmarks for coloring. No additional planning is necessary, making it easy for teachers to use in the classroom or for small groups. The lesson helps students identify their feelings and utilize conflict-resolution techniques to solve problems with friends.
