What educators are saying

Fun activities to go along with a Bug and a Wish book. I still hear students working on conflicts this way. I did not quite understand the bug pairing activity but everything else worked great!
My students loved using this resource! It was engaging and aligned to our current focus in the classroom!

Description

❤️ Help primary students develop effective communication skills for conflict resolution by practicing I-Message statements. Using Karen Scheuer's story, A Bug and A Wish, students will learn how to make Bug and Wish statements to resolve conflicts with friends. Enhance your students' social-emotional learning. *Please note that the book is not included in the download.

The PowerPoint for this lesson has multiple slides that focus on practicing how to make Bug and Wish statements. Firstly, the class practices together, then individual students demonstrate using Buggy Situations. After that, the class breaks into groups of three to work on conflict situations. To assess student learning, each group presents how they would handle Buggy Situations and builds a Bug, with bug body parts appearing on the slideshow to create a butterfly in the end. Finally, as an extension activity, students get to create colorful bookmarks and bracelets to help them remember how to use Bug and Wish statements.

This lesson is designed for primary students and comes with a complete packet of materials. The packet includes a lesson plan, PowerPoint Slideshow with an Interactive Build a Bug assessment, BUG cards to group students, Buggy Situation pictures, and bookmarks for coloring. No additional planning is necessary, making it easy for teachers to use in the classroom or for small groups. The lesson helps students identify their feelings and utilize conflict-resolution techniques to solve problems with friends.

What is included in this packet:

1. Solving Conflicts with a Bug & A Wish Lesson Plan (3 pages)

2. Solving Conflicts with a Bug & A Wish Slide Show (20 slides)

3. BUG Cards - Print front & back for a total of 24 cards to sort students into eight groups of 3. (5 pages)

4. Buggy Situations - Cut in half for a total of 8 situations. (4 pages)

5. Bug & Wish Bookmark - Print front & back (3 pages)

**Updated 10/30/23 with new clipart and additional coloring bracelets activity*
