What educators are saying

A great resource to help students learn about honesty. I highly recommend this product for your classroom.
This year, I really struggled to explicitly teach social skills. This resource is such a fantastic, easy to use resource.

Taking those teachable moments into an intentional lesson can be so impactful. Social skills is meant for everyone. It comes naturally easier for some than others,

Description

Honesty is the best policy... wait a second. Should we be saying EVERYTHING that pops into our head? That's a tough concept to grasp. We promote the value of honesty, but sometimes it's best to keep those honest opinions and facts in our head. I love using this activity with students, because it ties into trustworthiness, gossip/rumors, tattling and being respectful.

This product can be used solo, paired with a book that is related to honesty throughout the year. Here are some books to consider pairing the lesson with:

  • Being Frank, Donna Earnhardt
  • But It’s Not My Fault, Julia Cook
  • Did You Hear?, Frank J. Sileo
  • I Can’t Believe You Said That!, Julia Cook
  • Lying Up a Storm, Julia Cook
  • Rumor Has It, Julia Cook
  • The Boy Who Cried Bigfoot, Scott Magoon

I created this lesson, because gossip/rumors are all around us and it hurts people. Students would use adults as excuses to gossip and/or be honest themselves, but sincerely hurt others in the process. Throughout the lesson, I emphasize that's it's okay to have your own opinion and/or know the truth about something. I needed a lesson that would cover honesty in a variety of capacities and to promote kindness at the same time. This lesson promotes that we need to T.H.I.N.K. before we speak to help us decide if it's better to keep in our head or okay to share with others.
