Description

This Social Living Promethean flipchart teaches students the history of the first Thanksgiving. The lesson opens with a turkey and Thanksgiving motif. The next page has a list of objectives to be covered in the lesson. The next page is KWL Chart for Thanksgiving (or the teacher can specialize it to pilgrims, indians, Thanksgiving food, traditions, etc). The class, as a whole group, will complete the K and W portion now ("what I know" and "what I want to know"), then following the lesson the class will revisit the page to complete the "L" portion (what I learned). The next several pages give very descriptive information on many Thanksgiving concepts: events leading up to the holiday, Abraham Lincoln, pilgrims, indians, traditions, etc. Activities are embedded within each page: phrases connecting to higher order thinking prompts, several critical thinking questions, and journal prompts. The teacher can opt to break the lesson and have students individually complete these activities, do them in pairs/groups, or just discuss together as a class. On the last facts page, there are links to educational videos on Thanksgiving holiday facts, traditions, and dinner (you will need a media player on your computer that will play these files). Last, is a page that allows for review and closure, with 4 links to Thanksgiving games: turkey drop, Thanksgiving match, turkey match, and concentration.
