Description

Use these social emotional learning self-assessments to help students identify strengths and needs for each area of SEL: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationships, and decision-making. This set includes 5 simple and no-prep self-screeners for kids and teens. Each self-assessment also comes with an explanation of each of the skills targeted and a page for reflection.

About the Self-Assessments

As explained in the student and educator guides, there are no "right or wrong" answers. Instead, these self-assessments are intended to be a strategy to increase awareness about SEL skills. This provides kids and teens with an opportunity to think about what social emotional skills they might need to work on, and what they are already strong with.

For each self-assessment, students will rate themselves from 0-4 based on 10 different statements. Please see the thumbnails and preview for a closer look!

Digital and Print Versions

Digital and print versions are included. To access the digital version for Google Slides, open the PDF with "digital directions" in the title and click the blue link. Directions are also included to help you assign to your learners.

Why Teach Social Emotional Learning Skills

Social and emotional learning, referred to as SEL, is the process that helps kids and young adults learn critical skills, attitudes, and mindsets for social and emotional success. These skills cover five major areas: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationships, and responsible decision-making. It’s actually difficult to describe in just one sentence because SEL covers everything from building confidence and managing emotions to making friends and understanding ethical decision-making skills. These are truly the foundational skills that help kids to be successful in and out of school.
