What educators are saying

I love the PDF with the clickable links and tabs. It makes it super easy for students to reference the material they need to answer questions. This is a silly, realistic resource that keeps students engaged.
I use this as a choice during our musculoskeletal unit for Essentials of Healthcare. The students love this activity. It is a great activity that helps students connect the anatomy to the patho.

Description

The Diagnostic Radiology Lab is a fun and engaging way to introduce students to the use of x rays (radiographs) in the diagnosis of a wide range of problems from broken bones to intestinal blockages and more. Students learn how radiographs are made, the basics of how to interpret them, and how to distinguish what is normal from what is not. Allow your students to become the doctor (they just won’t get paid like one)!

Get your students up and running faster than ever with the addition of Google Apps and TPT Easel formats. The traditional PDF version is also included along with a Quick Link that opens the lesson online in the student’s browser.

The Diagnostic Radiology Lab is a 90 page Interactive (hyperlinked) pdf or Google Slides document that guides students through the investigation and diagnosis of X-Ray images from 26 patients. Patient X-Rays are linked to a 6 Chapter (52 page) Radiology Reference Guide which provides comprehensive background information to students. Chapter One begins with an explanation of how radiographs are made, the basics of how to interpret them, and how to distinguish what is normal from what is not. Other chapters introduce students to bone anatomy, joints, types of fractures, conditions of the spine, and surgical techniques. Questions are carefully crafted to guide younger students while continuing to challenge more advanced students. Hints are provided in the form of links to specific sections or pages of the Radiology Reference Guide.

Also included is the Radiology Board Exam activity, the Diagnostic Radiology Lab Quiz, and Diagnostic Radiology Lab Answer Sheet all in printable pdf, Google Slides, and TpT Easel formats. The Radiology Board Exam activity is intended to be completed by students before they “meet their patients”.

This lesson includes:

Diagnostic Radiology Lab (run online, from downloadable pdf, or Google Slides)

Radiology Board Exam (pdf, Google Slides, TPT Easel)

Student Lab answer sheet (pdf, Google Slides, TPT Easel)

Diagnostic Radiology Lab Quiz (pdf, Google Slides, TPT Easel)

Disclaimer: although the X-rays are of real people their names and histories are not (we made them up to make it more fun). As for the diagnoses; we’re not doctors but we think we did pretty good!
