Description

Your class will reflect on their Standardized TEST practice test writing essay using this simple rubric.

Students will self-assess their essay writing by using this rubric.

This checklist/rubric is simple and straightforward and uses kid-friendly language and can help with the writing component found on Ohio's OST, AIR, PARCC, Smarter Balanced, ISASP, KAP, K-PREP, LEAP, MEA, MCAP, MCAS, M-STEP, MAAP, NSCAS, NHSAS, NJSLA, NYSA, North Carolina EOG Tests, NDSA, SCReady, Standards of Learning, WVGSA, ITBS, PSSA, TAK, CST, CMAS, ACT Aspire Test Prep, NYSTP, FSA, Scantron Performance tests, PEAK, AZMerit, Texas STAAR, Georgia Milestones Assessment, IAR, ILEARN.

How to Use this Resource:

  1. Use this writing rubric to introduce the writing expectations before students take the their practice test.
  2. Copy the checklist and questions front to back then cut in half and give one checklist to each student.
  3. After students have completed their Writing practice test, review the expectations based on the rubric/checklist.
  4. Have students self-assess, determine their score, and begin to answer the reflection questions on the back.
  5. Talk as a class about which part is the hardest to earn points and set goals for how they can work on increasing their overall score. Use the reflection questions to guide the discussion and then take notes (or have one student scribe for the class) on a blank copy while students answer aloud what they wrote.

Team this up with test prep reminder slides presentation and video or add in this Vocabulary Game and you are on your way to having your class ready for standardized testing!
