Sight/Fry Words 1-1000 Fluency Intervention Editable Breath Boxes Activity

Kids just love this activity! Little do they know that it is a reading intervention designed to improve high frequency word fluency. That's right they have fun with this!!! Motivate them with a piece of bubble gum when they pass their lists!

Students are to take a deep breath and read all the words in a box starting with the smallest box and building to the biggest. Genius isn't it!

This is the complete full set 1000 Fry Words with 2 blank pages with open fields where the font is embedded. :) You can type right on the page.

Every 25 words is on two sheets where one has the words in order and the other has the words scrambled.

Print on bright colored card stock or put in plastic sleeves.

Can be used for: RTI or PST Intervention, utilized in centers, paired or partner work, small group warm ups, remediation, tutoring, displayed using a document camera or on an interactive white board for use as a whole group activity.

While this is something I used in my own classroom. Through research I discovered that the original creator of One Breath Boxes is teachertipster.com.

It's simple, to the point, fluency practice of the most basic sight words that comprise most of what we read. They learn to speed read without ever even knowing it!

The Fry Word list was developed after the Dolch Word list. It is said that the Fry Words make up about 70-80% of everything we read.
