Description

This is a short story guide for the short story titled "An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving," by Louisa May Alcott. There are five sections, so the guide is designed to be completed in a week.

In this story the Bassett family is preparing for Thanksgiving when they get a message that Mrs. Bassett's mother is failing fast. Mr. and Mrs. Bassett must go quickly, so they leave the farm and home in charge of their eldest boy and girl.

The guide includes:

  • vocabulary exercises
  • discussion questions
  • reading activities -- Students will: play a game of telephone, write a list, fill in a chart (compare/contrast), fill in a 5-elements of a short story chart, and complete a review crossword puzzle. Students will learn about: the author, Thanksgiving facts, an antonym, mood, similes, alliteration, the five elements of a short story, odd grammar, allusion, sequence, and theme.
