What educators are saying

Students have been enthusiastic about their research. I assigned an additional part to their presentation as they are required to have a class activity prepared for their classmates.
Perfect for December; this helped create more multi-cultural connections and interest in a time when students are ready to leave. As a high school teacher, it feels like this would be something they wouldn't want to do, but this surprisingly does interest them.

Description

This short research task for December allows your middle and high school students to investigate and share various symbols of the holiday season. This low prep assignment is very flexible: It could be used to teach MLA and research, review MLA, or in a non English class looking to incorporate research in a fun way.

Student Experience: Students will research an important symbol from the Christmas season, design a media presentation, and then present their findings to the class. With this student-centered project, they will show their knowledge of MLA, etc., but even more poignantly, students will gain awareness of other cultures or even their own!
