Description

The popular TV show Shark Tank gives contestants the chance to share their business idea with a team of investors referred to as sharks. This project mimicks the TV show and makes a great end-of-the-year project or a project to raise funds for your class or school. Students come up with a project or service idea they can actually put into place. If you aren't using real money for this project, students could use this as part of the classroom management system. Students can spend the "money" they earn for good behavior to purchase some of these items.

When creating their business plan, the students should consider the talents of all of their team members. Students could create bracelets, bookmarks, or locker magnets. They could provide a pencil sharpening service or a homework hotline. Students will learn about money, budgeting, and business vocabulary along the way!

This packet provides your students with everything they will need from start to finish for this project. It provides instructions about how to complete the project, a link to watch the television show Shark Tank (be sure to preview the episode for appropriateness!), and a business plan outline and sample. Also included are three rubrics, one for each round of the competition along with a reflection page where students can record the advice of the "sharks" and make changes to their plan.

This project helps you students develop the following:

Persuasive writing and using a visual presentation to persuade

The use of technology and creative art to persuade

Business terms and vocabulary

Budgeting, money, and calculating profit, percentages, etc.

Teamwork and collaboration

Reflection and revision of writing

Optional fundraising experience!
