Shared Reading February Poems Kindergarten

Groundhog's Day, Chinese New Year, Brushing your teeth, presidents, and valnetine poems are all included in this amazing resource.

Be prepared for February with all of your shared reading done and planned! Everything is included in this pack for 5 full weeks of engaging shared reading lessons that meet appropriate Common Core standards for this point in kindergarten.

This unit uses shared reading to meet Common Core standards across the ELA curriculum. Students will engage with a poem for 5 days (or more if you want to expand) and work on skills appropriate for kindergarten students in February.

Each poem has specific plans written out and alternate activities. The alternate activities can be used to differentiate and make this unit work for your class! No two classes are the same for me, so I substitute activities out each year.

All 5 poems are original works. They are short and often sung to a familiar tune to engage our youngest learners.

QR codes can be used on the teacher/student copy to get a quick demo/reminder of what the poem should sound like!

The Smart Board files allow you to share the reading with students and interact with the poem as well. You could also write the poem on sentence strips if a Smart Board or projector is not available to you.

You will also find all printable materials and directions for implementing a successful poetry center in your classroom if you haven't started one yet!
