Description

On Oct.24, 2024 their will be an annular solar eclipse that will be viewable over the continental US! NASA released a 3D printable pinhole viewer for the USA. But they also released an activity to see if the size and shape of the pinhole affects the shape of the eclipse!

In just a few steps, students can design and create their pinhole viewers, making this lab the ideal hands-on activity to witness this celestial event safely.

Key Highlights:

Solar Eclipse Ready: Prepare for the solar eclipse and ensure safe viewing with custom-designed pinhole viewers.

TinkerCAD Simplicity: Dive into the world of 3D design with ease using TinkerCAD, creating a viewer that's both practical and educational.

Hands-On Experience: Engage students in a hands-on learning activity that lets them explore the science behind eclipses while crafting their viewers.

Creative Design: Encourage creativity by allowing students to personalize their pinhole viewers with unique patterns or designs.

Educational and Fun: Combine education and excitement as students learn about solar eclipses through practical application.

Celestial Connection: Foster an understanding of celestial phenomena and create lasting memories as students experience the eclipse through their viewers.

Prepare your students for the upcoming solar eclipse with our "Shape the Eclipse TinkerCAD Pinhole Viewer Lab." Download this resource today, and watch as your class enjoys an educational and captivating eclipse experience.

This PDF has a full TinkerCAD walk through to modify NASA's original file. It also has a second activity where you can make a full array of size and shapes for viewing the eclipse!

A free YT Shorts on how this viewer works can be seen HERE!

This lab also includes 2 sets of worksheets! Your students will work with a partner to observe the eclipse and the effects of it though different pinhole viewers.

Your class can design and 3D print or laser cut these viewers, or download them from the author for FREE.

Create equations and inequalities in one variable and use them to solve problems.
Create equations in two or more variables to represent relationships between quantities; graph equations on coordinate axes with labels and scales.
Represent constraints by equations or inequalities, and by systems of equations and/or inequalities, and interpret solutions as viable or non-viable options in a modeling context. For example, represent inequalities describing nutritional and cost constraints on combinations of different foods.
Determine the central ideas or conclusions of a text; summarize complex concepts, processes, or information presented in a text by paraphrasing them in simpler but still accurate terms.
Follow precisely a complex multistep procedure when carrying out experiments, taking measurements, or performing technical tasks; analyze the specific results based on explanations in the text.
